I am big and small, giant and miniscule, and if I’m lucky I’m somewhere in between.
Everything I feel takes up too much or too little space. On good days things work out and I fit the world around me better.
On bad ones I seem to be swallowed by the city, or crushing buildings under my thumb.
I grew up in the woods between the lenticels in the tree bark, as well as in the space that separates the stars Alkaid and Dubhe.
I had a lot of room to be however I needed to be.
I moved to the city and found myself trying to figure out how to fit in difficult places.
Like nestled in the cracks in the sidewalk and the roads that span from I-76 and Erie Avenue.
Everywhere I look there are people trying to figure out how to occupy the space that exists within here and there.
Trying to find ways to survive in places that do not fit us, to breathe properly in buildings that cannot contain us, trying to take up the space we need to touch each other.
This is about that.
